Description

The New Jersey Attorney General’s office is looking for entry-level customer service representatives bilingual in Spanish and English for the Victims of Crime Compensation Office in Newark, NJ. These positions have no formal education or experience requirements with an entry-level salary of $30,227.90. After six months, appointees will be eligible for advancement to the next title in the series, with a starting pay of $32,874.46. Employees are eligible for yearly salary increases on the advancement anniversary date.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state’s legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law and Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.

ABOUT THE DIVISION:

The Victims of Crime Compensation Office (VCCO) provides compensation to certain victims of violent crime for expenses they incur as a result of the crime. VCCO serves as the payer of last resort, available to victims after they have exhausted other resources, including State benefits and insurance.

DUTIES:

Under the close supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, agency, or institution

· learns to perform front-line and behind the scenes customer and other support services involving the review, processing and issuance of agency documents

· provides information to customers regarding department/agency programs and services

· does other related duties as required.

OTHER KEY FACTORS:

· Applicants who successfully complete the six (6) month training period will be eligible for promotion to the title of Agency Services Representative 1 in accordance with Civil Service Commission procedures.

· The inability of an employee in a trainee title to successfully attain a level of performance warranting advancement shall be considered cause for separation.

· Preference will be given to candidates who are able to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in Spanish and English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.

· Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
