The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Rutgers University-New Brunswick invites applications for a three-year renewable non tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position as Spanish Language Program Director. This 10-month position starts Sept. 1, 2024, with an additional part-time appointment in mid-August, 2024. The responsibilities include overseeing academic, curricular, administrative, and personnel matters related to our well-established Spanish as a second language program, while working closely with an assistant director and two supervisors. In addition to directing the Spanish language program, the successful candidate will have a 2-2 teaching load. Teaching duties may include teaching Spanish language courses, undergraduate-level courses in the applicants’ area of research, and a graduate seminar on language teaching methods.
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers a Spanish major and minor, a Master of Arts in Teaching, a Master of Arts in Translation and Interpretation, a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism, and a Ph.D. in Latin American, Iberian, and Luso-Afro-Brazilian Literatures and Cultures. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the department’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
The qualifications are: (1) Ph.D. in Spanish or related field by September 1, 2024 (Ph.D. preferred but ABD candidates will also be considered); (2) experience directing language programs or supervising language courses; (3) experience teaching online and in-person Spanish language courses; and (4) native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
