Full Time Upper School Spanish Teacher Position

We’re seeking a dynamic, passionate, and professional teacher to lead our Spanish Language program. Someone who has the experience and the skills necessary to help reach a broad and diverse community of students of the Spanish language, from New Mexican heritage speakers to international students trying Spanish for the first time. Someone with a strong understanding of the wide diversity among countries which speak Spanish, and excited to introduce that incredible cultural and linguistic diversity to our student body in a way that excites and engages.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement curricula for Spanish classes, with a focus on engaging with the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) or CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) standards.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons that teach Spanish language and culture to students using a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the World Languages department to align content and ensure coherence in student learning.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting course content to Menaul community and standards.
  • Provide appropriate instructional classroom activities for students.
  • Maintain positive attitude and ensure classroom environment is conducive to student learning.
  • Provide timely feedback to students on their assignments.
  • Maintain at all times regular records of student performance and attendance.
  • Complete required reports and report cards within prescribed timeframes.
  • Regularly attend staff meetings and in-service training activities/professional development.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with students, academic advisors, and parents regarding student progress.
  • Develop realistic, context-based goals for student academic achievement.
  • Use and apply appropriate conflict resolution skills with students and coworkers.
  • Comply with Menaul School Employee Standards of Conduct, uphold and enforce rules, administrative directives, school policies, and all regulations.

Minimum Requirements for Application:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Spanish, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Fluency in the Spanish language including a strong command of both written and spoken Spanish.
  • Ability to maintain high level of professionalism regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in relevant field.
  • Three years of teaching experience.
  • US state-level teaching certification in specified field, or other accredited state or national teacher certification, e.g. UK Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Experience implementing project-based learning approaches in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationship with administration, faculty, students.
  • Experience in international education or with English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Experience teaching dual-language programs, IB or AP Spanish, or similar programs.
  • Contacts in Hispanophone countries.
  • Willingness to work with towards exchange and sister-school relationships with schools in Spanish-speaking countries.

Specific Course Responsibilities:

  • Year-long sections of Spanish 1, 2, & 3 as well as an AP Spanish course
  • A section of Advisory
