Interim Upper and Middle School French and/or Spanish Teacher

Tower Hill School seeks a qualified candidate to teach Upper and Middle School French and/or Spanish from August 2023 through January 2024, with the possibility of extension depending on department needs. The Tower Hill Language Department adheres to a communicative and student-centered approach to modern language instruction. Candidates must possess native or near-native proficiency in French and/or Spanish and be able to teach beginner to advanced level courses. In addition to expertise in language teaching, the ideal candidate demonstrates a cultural awareness that encompasses the complex historical, political, and social realities of the non English-speaking world.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach four sections of French and/or Spanish in the Upper and Middle School

    • Courses may be assigned based on the experience and interests of the teacher, as well as the needs of the department

  • Utilize a variety of pedagogical approaches and instructional technologies to enhance students’ language acquisition and cultural competence

  • Provide timely feedback that promotes student growth

  • Collaborate regularly with language department colleagues to evaluate pacing, assessments, and curriculum

  • Participate in department and faculty meetings

  • Assist with student supervision and chaperoning

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in French, Spanish or a related field (master’s degree preferred)

  • Experience teaching French or Spanish at the secondary or collegiate level (three or more years of teaching experience preferred)

  • Proficiency in and ability to teach both French and Spanish is desired but not required

  • Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal

  • Enthusiasm for professional growth, academic excellence and creative teaching

  • Ability to plan and organize educational content

  • Commitment to broad participation in school life

  • Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
