Secondary (7th- 12th Grade) Spanish Teacher Job Description (2023- 2024 School Year)

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Secondary Assistant Principal, the Secondary (7th- 12th Grade) Spanish Teacher will implement daily student instruction based on an educational curriculum designed to meet State of Nevada as well as federal standards for students at Amplus Academy. The teacher will create and maintain an educational atmosphere that encourages effective student learning. The teacher will be expected to adhere to Amplus Academy's professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards. Amplus Academy is a classical education charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas, Nevada. Amplus Academy has two campuses serving Kindergarten- 12th grade students.

Terms of Employment: 182 work days per Contract of Employment

Salary: The compensation for this position is in alignment with the Amplus Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; Salary Schedule based on years experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.

Salary Range: $59,000 - $80,000 based on education and licensure

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the behavior of students in the classroom, on school grounds (including hallways and lunch rooms) and on educational trips

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and school, state and federal curriculum guidelines

  • Designs and delivers individual lesson plans using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learning styles

  • Ensures the opportunity for students to learn in a positive, supportive environment

  • Develops a classroom climate that promotes positive learning

  • Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance

  • Analyzes student progress and provides appropriate instruction

  • Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students and parents as they arise

  • Monitors students progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for graduation, vocational school, or college, as appropriate

  • Collaborates with guidance counselors to help students develop post-secondary plans including college or vocational school

  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with school and state laws and policies

  • Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal

  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents

  • Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors

  • Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records

  • Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff

  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars

  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in elementary education

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education

  • Knowledge of Spanish language

  • Desire to teach Secondary (7th- 12th grade) school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status

  • The ability to design lessons that teach in an engaging manner and guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Classroom or related software

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Spanish, Education or other applicable field

  • Nevada teaching license or out of state teaching license with ability to transfer licensure to Nevada required

  • Prior teaching experience (2 years+) preferred

  • Specialized training in teaching junior high and high school-aged children is preferred

  • Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; ability to occasionally restrain or move up to 50-100 pounds if required to intervene during student safety issues.

  • This type of work requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, or reaching for extended periods of time.

  • This type of work requires occasional or frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling during crisis scenarios such as hard lockdowns, earthquake drills, etc.

  • Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area.

  • Ability to operate, activate and use a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.

  • Employees in this classification may be subject to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, high noise levels, and various work related hazards such as bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
