Spanish Translator/Interpreter

Summary

This position will translate and interpret directions in real time between two or more persons, accurately relating to English from Spanish, and Spanish to English in precise, verbal language and written documentation.

Supervision Received

Working under the direction of the Director of Safety Consulting and collaboratively with the NATS Leadership Team, the Translator/Interpreter is responsible to accurately interpret verbal communication between two or more persons. Converting written materials from English to Spanish may be needed.

Essential Functions

• Translate verbal communication in real time, reciting everything verbatim.
• Precisely and clearly read written documents aloud in both languages.
• Build excellent relationships with clients.
• Assess clients’ needs by having open discussion regarding current language skill in English and Spanish.
• Use specialist reference books, dictionaries, and thesauruses (provided).
• Consult with experts in specialized areas for clarity and understanding of directions.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing both in Spanish and English.
• Translators need patience to perform clear and precise translations.
• May require working for long hours at a time.
• Excellent organizational, time management skills and attention to detail using verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate excellent social skills.
• Must be flexible in work settings.
• Ability to provide a superior customer experience.
• Good reading comprehension skills to understand the words and translate them.
• Possess cultural knowledge of the source language and the language to be translated.

Required education and experience

• High School Diploma with 2 years of translator/interpreter experience. Language certification in translation is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); additional cloud-based systems and software, Google drive, one drive.

Environment: Outside site location

Physical: Sufficient physical ability to perform functions standing for periods of time, outside walking, reaching, lifting up to twenty pounds and bending.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
