Position overview

Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the particular courses the lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring units instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in winter quarter 2023 through fall quarter 2023. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position Description


The Department of Languages and Applied Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach Spanish language courses.

Applicants with expertise and/or a graduate degree in applied linguistics are strongly encouraged to apply.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties, and who have experience teaching the targeted language both as a second language and as a heritage language. Candidates are expected to have native or near native proficiency in Spanish and they are expected to have extensive training in language pedagogy.

Internal candidates will be given priority consideration.

The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Masters degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in Spanish or related field and one year of independent teaching in the Spanish language at the university level.
