Job Description
This fixed-term assistant professor position’s primary duty will be mentoring concurrent enrollment instructors (high school teachers) in the Spanish College Now dual credit program. Mentoring responsibilities include maintaining communications with high school, department, and College Now personnel; reviewing syllabi; conducting assessment to insure rigor and quality of the program; conducting site visits; and offering assistance to teachers to improve their teaching of Spanish language and culture. The position may also teach introductory Spanish courses for the English, Philosophy, Spanish, and Humanities Department as needed and other courses as appropriate according to applicant’s qualifications. Instructors must follow programmatic standards in courses they teach and mentor and work from a common curriculum developed by the department. Instructors should be available to students and mentees outside of class time. The person in this position will also support the on-campus Spanish program through advising and engaging in service to the university and community. This position will be 66-80% of a full-time load (approximately 15-18 credits depending on need). Preference will be given to applicants who can teach classes on campus in Marshall, Minnesota and travel to concurrent enrollment sites in Minnesota.

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a master’s degree in Spanish or related field.
  • Applicant must be a native or near-native speaker of Spanish.
  • Applicants must be able to travel to on-site visits within the state of Minnesota.
  • Applicants should have a documented commitment to excellence in teaching, a student-centered approach to teaching, and a commitment to growing the Spanish program.
  • Applicants should be able to work productively and collegially with a variety of stakeholders, including students, faculty, and administrators.
