The School of Education is comprised of five academic departments including Educational Leadership, Teacher Education, Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Counseling. The Department of Teacher Education offers an AA in Early Childhood Multicultural Education, and BA concentrations in the areas of Early Childhood Multicultural Education Age 3 to Grade 3, Early Childhood Multicultural Education Birth to Four, Secondary Education (Minor) and in Special Education/Elementary Education. Applications are invited for an open-rank faculty position with an annual contract starting in August, 2021.

Specific teaching responsibilities will be commensurate with candidate’s qualifications, but may focus on the individual’s specialization area(s). The successful candidate may teach day, evening, weekend and online courses.

In addition to teaching a normal teaching load of both undergraduate and graduate courses (18 credit hours in the first academic year and 24 credit hours thereafter), the selected candidate will be expected to serve as advisor to undergraduate students in Teacher Education, graduate students.

Selected candidate will be expected to participate in department and university committees; develop and maintain collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts; hold office hours as required; conduct scholarly activities such as research in a particular field of knowledge, and submit for publication and/or presentation at professional conferences.
Duties and Responsibilities
The person selected for this position will teach undergraduate and graduate Bilingual and TESOL courses with strong field experience components, supervise student teachers, advise students, assist with recruitment and retention initiatives, engage in scholarly activity, collaborate with PK-12 and university faculty and provide service to the community.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: An earned doctorate in bilingualism, bilingual education, or biliteracy by Spring 2023.
Bilingual in Spanish/English.Ability to teach relevant undergraduate and graduate level courses in Spanish.

Licensure: Current Level II or III Teaching License with bilingual education endorsement (or eligible to apply).

P-12 Teaching Experience: Five years of demonstrated successful experience In Pre-K-12 teaching experience in U.S. (preferred in Southwest) bilingual (Spanish/English) setting.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience forming partnerships with bilingual schools/districts.
Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publishing on Spanish/English bilingualism.
Demonstrated interest in and commitment to outreach and collaboration with Northern New Mexico communities.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in professional development programs with pre and in-service teachers in Pre-K-12 bilingual settings and/or teacher education.
Experience designing and teaching synchronous/asynchronous online courses.
Successful experience working with diverse students, faculty, and staff in an academic setting.
Experience with CAEP accreditation.
College/University Teaching Experience: Successful college or university teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level and in bilingual/biliteracy and TESOL education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish (all four language skills).
  • Proficiency teaching and communicating with colleagues and students via electronic and digital modalities.
  • Proficiency in the integration of technology to support teaching and learning.
  • Proficiency in Desire to Learn or other Learning Management System.
  • Proficiency with student advisement/information systems (e.g. Degree Audit and Banner)
