Everything that we do at McAuliffe is intended to meet the needs of students in their early adolescence. You must have the ability to develop meaningful connections with students, have strong classroom management skills, and have the skills to create a classroom culture in which individuals are valued for what they bring to the group.We hope that you feel excited about engaging students in learning about the language and culture of Spanish speaking peoples.. You will collaborate with other teachers to refine the curriculum. We hope that you'll bring your own knowledge and interests to engage in this ongoing curriculum development.

You will be expected to plan and deliver instruction aligned with recognized standards for middle school-level world languages and assess students mastery of the standards outlined for each. Helping students develop the skills and strategies to start on the pathway toward being effective and culturally literate readers, writers, listeners and speakers of Spanish is what matters most. We expect you to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of our diverse student body.As a staff member you will support a crew, similar to an advisory, of about 12 students. You will work with the crew leader to mentor/advocate for each student in your crew -- like their McAuliffe parent away from home.

You'll engage them in team building activities, facilitate social-emotional learning, guide the development of crew and individual goals, and help prepare students for student-led-conferences and final Passages presentations.Candidates with fluency in Portuguese in addition to Spanish will be given preference.TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES** Employ a variety of teaching methodologies that guide students to engage in language and cultural learning, including cooperative learning, use of protocols, simulations, workshops, hands-on projects, and other inquiry-based activities** Employ total participation techniques to engage all scholars in learning during every moment of class** Implement formative and summative assessments to track student progress** Analyze data on student performance to effectively inform instruction** Provide differentiated support including accommodations and modifications to ensure all students are able to meet and exceed standards** Coordinate and participate in day and overnight fieldwork including camping trips** Integrate work with expert professionals during fieldwork, via video conferencing, or in person on-site interview** Participate in ongoing professional development including peer observations** Implement school-wide positive behavioral systems to effectively manage the classroom** Continually communicate with students families regarding performance and progress** Serve as a Crew co-adviser to approximately 12 students, which includes leading a daily advisory, called Crew, supporting advisees and regularly communicating with parents/guardians** Serve as an active member of the McAuliffe community including attending evening celebrations of student learningQUALIFICATIONS** Competence in Spanish. Knowledge of Portuguese highly desirable.** Collaborative mindset.
