Description
Overview:
The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a Spanish teacher. We are seeking an enthusiastic, collegial individual who wants to work with other highly motivated faculty and students in a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive boarding school environment. The Lawrenceville Language Department supports students as they become citizens of the global community: the curriculum is designed to develop capacities to understand other cultures and peoples through the beauty and power of their languages.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach four sections/two to three preps per trimester.
  • Two seasons of coaching or equivalent co-curricular commitment, including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
  • Advise five to eight students, and do one evening a week of “House duty,” providing supervision in a student residence from 7-11:30 pm. Although not necessarily starting their first year, faculty who reside in School-provided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career.
  • Chaperone a weekend activity (dance, coffee house, etc.) one or two times a term.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish; the strongest candidates will have a master’s degree or higher in Spanish, or a master’s in education and a bachelor’s in Spanish.
  • Ability to teach all levels, introductory to honors (college-level).
  • Demonstrated success planning and facilitating collaborative, student-centered classes.
  • At least two years of high school teaching experience.
  • A passion for teaching the Spanish language.
  • A passion for working with high school-age students.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed and appropriate.
  • Demonstrated success with the effective incorporation of technology in the learning process, including language labs.
  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite.
