QUALIFICATIONS: N.C. teacher certification in High School Education required; Highly Qualified designation in High School Education required; Fluency in Spanish required
SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement (supplement increases with years of experience)

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals and/or clerical assistants.
JOB GOAL: To create a flexible Spanish language instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to accomplish these goals in Spanish during the instructional day; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the NC Standard Course of Study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to the pupils.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers and evaluates their job performance as requested.
- Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Selects and requisitions Spanish books and instructional aides; maintains required inventory; LEP testing documentation and records.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year. Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
